“RED” FACE JUG
|
This is an earthenware jughead named after a
copper headed boy the kids called " Red." He was a risk taker and always wanted
to be first. One long, hot Georgia summer day the neighborhood kids had to escape.
They walked further than they had ever gone. They HAD to escape. Finally, they
arrived at the cliffs over the bend in the Chattahoochee River. Silently, they
stared at the water far below. Red just burst over the cliff like he could fly.
He was a hero. That night, at dinner it was so boring, he was bored , so bored.
With a grin, he told his family about the adventure. His Dad nodded.
" You don't know, do you ? Do you remember the feeling you had , just after you jumped?
That thrill was your death. You died at those cliffs. Your dead and you will be at
this table forever, boy. "
