This is an imported Mexican ceramic mask. The variety one might find at a road side
stand or a Pier II store. It appears to be an " All Saints Day" type mask. All
Saints Day is an annual Mexican celebration that welcomes back the souls of
departed loved ones. It coincides with our Halloween celebration.
As it relates to my Janiforms; the first level is the person the
world sees. The outer image appears to be a skull; a dead soul, a lifeless wanderer.
The second
level, symbolically represents to me the notion that someone could be
misrepresenting themselves. { the person behind the face we see. }
Which seems to be the same image as the first level. Ironically,
there is a third level. The third level may represents the person they
really are, unknown even to themself. In this case, the third level
is the only authentic looking " real " face. Who are you ? Who am I ?
Fun, huh ?
