This mask was made with a really
nice technique, called " sgrafitto ". While the clay is still raw or soft;
a layer of black engobe was brushed on. The lines are cut through the blacck.
The clay body fires to white. So, you
end up with a black mask with three dimentional, cut, white lines. Symboliclicly,
to me, this mask represents the repetitious chores life confronts each
of us with; the unavoidable and inevitable. What would those things be
for you ? There is another sgrafitto mask check out the other black and
white decorative
JANIFORMS.
