This is an aray of coasters and aluminium discs collected over the years. red button

coaster

In September, 1980; the red coaster protected the patina of the table next to the reclining chair in the living room of my house in Atlanta Geargia, USA. My pottery studio, then, was around back, under the house with a dirt floor and boards over the puddles when it rained.. All my ribs for throwing were flat sided and could not support an arch. WHAT IF there was a circle to support the arch on the inside of my pots.
Where could one be found, NOW !
VOILA ! The red coaster was the first, then the blue from the same set.
The others appeared over the years from yard sales and where ever. red button

By the way....
This is how you use a round rib made from a coaster to enlarge a pot from the inside.
1. Throw a cylinder; thin out the bottom section of the wall.
2. Enlarge the top [ Shoulder to neck ] first.
3. Then broaden from the bottom top [ foot / belly to shoulder ] red button
