GLAZE CART

There are three views of a glaze cart we made for dipping glaze.
Having a rolling cart makes moving glaze around the studio fast and convienent.
However, this cart holds over 20 gallons of glaze.
At nearly $ 20.00 a gallon, [ about 75 liters ] that means the cart holds nearly $ 400.00 [ USD ] of glaze.
Imagine the thrill of hitting a bump or a pebble and....
SPILLING IT !!!
That is scarey.

GLAZE CART PLANS

Okay...here we go....

  • 1.

Measure the height and width of the inside of the tub; about 4 to 6 inches
[ 10 to 15 cm ] from the top; inside.
Remember; the tub is tapered. The top is bigger than the bottom. The tub needs a frame with a tight fit.

  • 2.

This is the format of the base. It must be very strong. The glaze weights over 150 pounds. [ 60 kilos ] The cart must withstand bumps and stress with grace and fortitude.
The “ C's ” are corner braces. ( # 7 ) They are wood and should be as large as possible.
NOTE: be sure to leave room for the center brace; if you do the corner braces first.

  • 3.

This is the frame [ D ] for the “shelf” in the middle of the cart the glaze tub sits on. Be sure to put the brace across the middle. The tub needs the added support for the bottom.

  • 4.

This is a side view of “ D. ” The green line [ E ] is plywood. [ the thicker the better ]

  • 5.

    Top view of cart.
The two frames [ #1 and #2 ] are the same dementions. #2 is suspended over #1.

  • 6.

P.S. Most vases are glazed by dipping, see examples
