Are you ready ?
Did you cover your tables with disposable paper [ newspaper ] Set out pointed
stilts for the wet glazed pieces to rest on until dry. Stage your dipping area with as
few walking steps away as possible. Be prepared !!
5. NEXT: CHECK THE FIT
BEFORE you dip; make sure you piece can be COMPLETELY submerged in
the tub of glaze without missing any areas.
You can do half at a time, but, you have to know in advance.
6. SUBMERGE
Submerge the piece; with one SWIFT, and all encompassing movement.
Quickly, check and see if all of the piece is covered.
The longer the piece is in the glaze; the THICKER the coating will be.
This is a skill. You will have to develop a
“feel” for your glaze and duration of dip.
7. SHAKE IT OUT
QUICKLY; pour, empty, shake, rattle, and roll.
Do not let the glaze collect in any area; more than any other area. Keep the piece rotating, until the dripping almost stops completely.
set the piece down on a pointed WIRE stilt.
