As you can see, there are nine of one particular one. That is my favorite and the most frequently used. It is also the one that gets lost misplaced or lost or covered the most. It is round on one end and triangular on the other. The long ones on the bottom are home made.

These lop tools have round ends.
My pots were too heavy. The base of the wall was AWLAYS too thick.
The small loop tool was perfect for reaching down, into small pots and just trimming off the excess from the inside. WOW ! How simple is that ?
Well, as my pots got bigger and deeper; oops, the little tool was too short.
So, the medium size was purchased.
Then, my pots got really big. The medium size was WAY too small. But, there were no bigger [ longer ] ones to be bought.
So, make one !!
There used to be ads in monthly ceramics magazines for changable loop tools.
One was a round end. PERFECT !!!
The dowels are 5/ 8 inch [ 1.5 cm ] wood.
The loop is attached with a crimped copper ring for plumbing.

This is a “potter's view” looking down the dowel of the home made loop tool into a pot. There is good news, really good news. Trimming the excess clay from the inside of pots works. It makes the pots thinner and therefore, lighter.
The consequence, however, is, the pot collapse. OOPZ !!
Now there is a new problem to solve.
How to make the thin dramp clay stronger?
KEYWORD: DAMP
Why not use a propane torch to dry the clay and make it stronger.

These are the changable tips you may be able to purchase to make your own long loop tools. Check current or back issues of a monthly ceramics magazine. Otherwise, you can take the tip off a smaller loop tool and use it.
The thin / narrow loops from the small handle tools work. The fat / thick loops from the big handle loops DO NOT WORK.
